Dixie!

5 10 2009

My sister used to have a pet rat. Her name was Dixie! She was black with a white blotch on her stomach shaped as a hand. She never bit anyone she would only lick you, the only time she ever bit anyone was when they were being mean to her or something, I don’t really know what they did.

After we had Dixie for a while she got really smart, my sister would let her run around in her room with the door closed, and when you walked in the room Dixie would come running to you just like a dog would, and if she didn’t all you would have to do was call her name and she would scurry over to you.

But one time someone left the door open when Dixie was in the room and my cat Shadow got in! she was in there for a while, luckily my mom noticed shadow was in there, so my mom chased her out, and then hunted all around the room for Dixie. She was alright! But one day I picked her up and there was a bump behind her leg. Turns out it had been there for a while she had a tumor. one night she died in her sleep We never got another rat again. Have you ever had a sweet rat like that?

Savannah, I must admit that I have never owned a rat for a pet but have had pets who made a deep and lasting impact in my life. The memory of these pets and their funny antics bring a smile to my face. Clearly, Dixie, the rat was just such a pet. Thank you for sharing your memories of her.

Hi Savannah!
I have never had a rat but I have had one on my head… Long story… I have only had one pet die and that was my Dads fish that we bought him for his birthday! Her name was Angel… I was little that was the only name that me and my sisters could come up with! She lived a long time though! Three years is pretty long for a fish… I think… I don’t know what kind of fish she was so that is that!
